Working with the Team at Mother NY, I was brought on to manage all the digital elements for the launch of Janelle Monae’s new album, The Electric Lady. Collaborating with Janelle Monáe, Wondaland Arts Society, CoverGirl, Sonos and TuneIn, we launched Electric Pirate Radio, a digital pirate radio station, headquartered on a boat in the Hudson. The launch featured a 6 hour streaming radio player and a spectacular live show.
Fans could also get tickets to the show by finding Covergirl models around the city, live tracking them on an interactive map from the site. The site allowed users to live stream the radio station directly to their phone, desktop or tablet. The site also aggregated social conversations about the event and drove users to engage in the event via #electricpirateradio.
Hundreds of people flocked to Pier 84 to watch the Electric Lady perform new and old songs as she spread her message from aboard the boat. P. Diddy, Big Boi, Erykah Badu, La La Anthony, Esperanza Spalding, and Miguel were some of the music artists that joined Monáe on this multi-platform experience. It was an epic event imbued with a mission that's apparent in the album itself - we're all charged with potential and it's up to us to seize the opportunity to create an optimistic future.
